While spending time in South Africa, Spanish artist Fabio Lopez aka Dourone painted this new Mural titled “Camissa” during a visit to Cape Town.
‘Camissa’ is the ancient name that the local indigenous people, the Khoena, gave to the city of Cape Town almost 2000 years ago when they used to spend their summers on the Cape Peninsula, known to them as ‘the place where the clouds gather’.
‘Camissa’ or ammi i ssa also means “the place of sweet waters”, a name given to the clear and sweet water streams coming from Table Mountain, Cape Town’s landmark.
The mural, painted at the Good Hope Seminary Junior Primary School in Vredehoek, is characteristic of Dourone’s work, often defined as figurative illustration, both classical and surreal, and rendered through bold compositions and bright colours. Just like this new piece.
