Remi-Rough-Home-0 Last Wednesday was the opening of ‘Home’, UK artist Remi Rough‘s first solo exhibition in London since 2009 at Scream London Gallery.
The exhibition consists of an interesting collection of works on wood, handmade paper and canvases created during the past months. Each of the pieces plays with themes such as balance, colour, tension and the relationship between geometrical forms in a way that can remind us of the work of Russian Suprematist painters like Kazimir Malevich and the Constructivism of El Lissitzky and Dutch artist Theo van Doesburg, as well as modern urban painting and graffiti.

‘Home’ alludes to London itself. Remi Rough, who was born in South East London in the early seventies, has lived and worked in the city ever since breaking boundaries with the aid of a spray can and a paintbrush for over 27 years.
With a background from graffiti and wall painting that started as early as 1984, Remi Rough has played an important role in the development of the aesthetics of ‘abstract graffiti’ being in the last years a leading figure for a new type of modernist urban painting.

‘Home’ runs until November 3rd at the gallery located on Eastcastle House, 27-28 Eastcastle St, Fitzrovia, London.
