Johannes Mundinger and Blo. Tulum, Mexico (2017)
I recently got a few images of Johannes Mundinger‘s latest murals, painted during a month-long artist residency along with four other Berlin based artists in Tulum, Mexico, followed by a participation in the second edition of the Wall Dialogue festival in Mexico City.
Together with Alaniz (ge), Billy (uk), Mernywernz (ge) and Berlin-based French artist BLO they spent two weeks in Tulum talking to both locals and tourists, and working in the studio for the final exhibition. Beside the preparation for the show, Mundinger and BLO found some time to paint a few walls in the streets of Tulum, collaborating on a couple of murals (see images above and below).

After his artist residency, Mundinger travelled to Mexico City where he painted two other murals in occasion of the Wall Dialogue festival. One of them at the independent art space ATEA (image below).
As usual, we are confronted with Mundinger’s abstract impressionism which, inspired by the 19th century movement, aims to convey feelings of atmosphere, colours and other impressions from the real world. Mundinger describes his work as mainly abstract, but also highlighting the fact that it contains figurative elements and shapes that hint to existing things.

WALL DIALOGUE, which started in Berlin in 2015, featuring the work of BLO and Johannes Mundinger in that occasion, is combination of artist residency and cultural exchange that aims to “feature international urban artists and bring their various forms of expression into an international dialogue and to create a physical space of exchange”.
This time in the popular neighbourhood of La Merced, the festival’s line up included eleven artists from Europe, Mexico and Argentina: Pao Delfin, Libre, Vlocke, Said Dokins and La Piztola from Mexico, the artist couple Billy and Mernywernz from UK, Alaniz from Argentina, Nelio from France, and of course BLO and Johannes Mundinger.
WALL DIALOGUE is a follow-up to the #nuestrobarrio project, initiated by Annika Hirsekorn, from Neurotitan in Berlin and Jose Lopez, from ATEA in Mexico City.
