Previously known for his colourful murals, WAONE has been painting black and white walls for almost a year now. The whole started in March last year that he decided to make one of his dreams come true – to start painting line based black and white murals.
As explained in that occasion, WAONE’s approach to mural painting is the product of a 4-year wish inspired by a visit to St.Ottilien abbey’s library in Germany almost 5 years ago, when he rediscovered the magic of engraving.
Back in Varkala, India a year after his first monochrome mural, Waone painted a series of murals around the city. Motion of the Celestial sphere is the last one of them and is explained by Waone as follows:  “Someone in the celestial world is pushing the celestial sphere, which represents our world, across the cosmos.  This work is about the movement of the stars, planets, galaxies and everything in the Universe, about the Divine force that causes the whole Universe to move.”

“Master of time” (below) is another mural he did at “Tiger house” in Varkala. The mural depicts an hourglass with legs escaping from the inside of a box. It’s Waone’s depiction of the time running.  A tribute to Saturn (Shani in hindu, or Chronos in ancient greek tradition), the personification of Time.
This painting is small but functional – its works as a reminder that time is limited in our life.

The last one is called “Someone in the box” (yes, Waone likes boxes) was painted exactly on the same spot he painted two years ago at the so-called “Tigerman’s house”. According to the artist, a beautiful quiet place with a tropical garden and amazing view to the ocean on the South cliff in Varkala. A simple, beautiful and playful piece.
