Here some images I got from Berlin-based artist Johannes Mundinger’s newest mural painted in Boulogne sur Mer, a small coastal city in France, located 30 km south of Calais, France.
The project was organized in collaboration with StreetartBLN and counts with the participation of talented artists: Young Jarus, Dourone, David Walker, Pierre Marcuzzi and Johannes Mundinger.
Painted in different tones of browns with only small patches of reds, whites and blues that balance the composition, L´histoire en marron (History in Brown) bears a touch of melancholy. Architectonic structures, landscapes and perspective planes seem to overlap and melt together into something that could remind us of a dream sequence, a memory or maybe a still from an old silent movie.
According to Johannes Mundinger the piece reflects on the history of the city and its unique connection to the sea. In his own words, “my “underwater world“ doesn’t use these typical water colors, it integrates itself into its environment, the grey, brown, yellow surrounding. Floating shapes slowly giving birth to architectural forms.”.
