manso_ruido_salamanca_1Manso Ruido is a new collaborative mural by Spanish artists Pablo S. Herrero and Joaquín Vila painted near an abandoned fish farm in Salamanca.
The piece was painted inside the old and long abandoned Oratorio de La flecha, property of Granja Agustina de La flecha where 16th century Spanish writer and poet Fray Luis de León (1527-1591) used to have his breaks in between lectures and sporadic imprisonments by the Inquisition. It was also here he wrote some of his most famous poems, including “Ode to a retired life” which inspired this new mural.
Here a couple of sentences from this wonderful poem and my poor attempt to translate them:

¡ Qué descansada vida
la del que huye del mundanal ruido…
(…)
What a restful life
those who escape the worldly noise have…

The focus of the text is the search of solitude after the renunciation of worldly values, here beautifully interpreted by Pablo S. Herrero and Joaquín Vila.
